The Roost Retreat

Welcome to our quiet, quirky and rustic holiday hideaway, The Roost Retreat, located on the edge of the Gateway to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. The Roost Retreat is a converted Orangery/Greenhouse and was restored in 2018 into a comfortable and cosy bolthole, with its own separate kitchenette and a range of facilities. Sleeping up to two guests, we are perfect for couples, solo travellers and business guests. We are a hop across the road for Wensleydale Polar Express staff looking for convenient accommodation whilst working at the event.

We are dog friendly at The Roost Retreat and motorcyclists, cyclists and walkers are also very welcome.

The former Orangery retains the original characteristic wooden beams and is dotted with a Poultry theme throughout as a nod to the buildings’ previous role.

The separate kitchenette is a lovely little outside room, doubling up as a Dining area. The ideal spot to snuggle up in the evenings with a meal and glass of wine.

We are centrally situated in the village of Leeming Bar, just off the main A684 road between Bedale and Northallerton and a 20-minute drive from the Dales. Our location is perfect for visiting the many diverse range of attractions, gardens, houses, walking and cycling North Yorkshire has to offer.  We are lucky to have several lovely market towns with independent shops and businesses within a short drive including Bedale, Northallerton, Masham, Leyburn, Richmond and the beautiful cathedral city of Ripon.

A wonderful and comfortable overnight stay at The Roost. The owners have thought of every little detail, so if you’ve forgotten something, it doesn’t matter. You’ll find it there or could ask for it. There are lots of lovely little touches, including a selection of hot drinks for you to try, including marshmallows for your hot chocolate. The owners who live next door manage to be available for any potential issues/questions whilst at the same time giving you plenty of privacy. There is a handy shop next door and a space for you to prepare and eat simple meals. The bed is comfortable, the shower is powerful, and you really couldn’t ask for anything more. I would wholly recommend The Roost to anyone planning a visit to this area.

We had a lovely time at The Roost Retreat, the hosts were really welcoming and friendly even let us park our car there earlier than the check-in time as we were going on the Wensleydale railway.  Lots of unexpected added touches, homemade cake, milk, tea, coffee, etc. Can’t wait to return… hopefully very soon.

Amazing little place right off the A1. Perfect for us two and our dog – a million times better than a roadside hotel for breaking a long drive to Scotland.  It is cosy, comfortable and beautifully furnished.  Everything has been thought of. 1 min walk from shop, pub, cafe etc.  All you have to do is arrive and relax.

We have stayed several times before with the previous owners.The Roost Retreat is ideally positioned for our visits to the dales, with it’s own private off road parking. The new owners Simon and Claire have kept up the very high standards. With lots of thoughtful little extras which were very welcome. Simon and Claire are very friendly, the perfect hosts.
